Read – Mark 14:13 – 34 & Luke 4:18-19(AMP)

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me (the Messiah),

Because He has anointed Me…

…To set free those who are oppressed (downtrodden, bruised, crushed by tragedy),…

…to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord [the day when salvation and the favor of God abound greatly].

My soul is crushed

Have you ever felt like your soul is being crushed? Have you experienced a tragedy that you just can’t get over? Are you trapped by an addiction? Did you make a mistake that has ruined your life? Have you lost someone so dear but you can’t get over the pain? Have you been beaten down by life? Are you trapped in poverty? Have you or a loved one been unjustly arrested or imprisoned?

Jesus understands because he experienced a choking, crushing grief to the point of death – a death on the Cross. The Good News is that He provided a way to break free, no matter whether the oppression is spiritual, emotional or circumstantial. Kingdom people have been given His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is also referred to as Helper, Comforter, Advocate, Intercessor, Counselor, Strengthener, and Standby. Jesus was anointed to give us access to the bountiful favor of God; and He charged us with ministering His salvation and favor to everyone.

When I was suffering from a choking, crushing oppression of spirit, I had brothers and sisters minister the Holy Spirit to me through prayers, encouragement and acts of kindness; I literally felt that I was “surrounded by a cloud of many witnesses.” They helped me break free from the emotional and spiritual oppression.

Are you oppressed, downtrodden, bruised or crushed?  Seek help from your sisters and brothers and receive the favor of God made available by the blood of Jesus on the Cross.

Reflection and Application:  Does the Holy Spirit bring someone else who is crushed to your mind?  If so, pray that the Holy Spirit, the Comforter, will be present to them and administer a healing balm on their souls. If you are able, be “love with skin on” to them in some way.

Jesus, thank you for bearing our grief and sorrows on the Cross and giving us access to the Favor of God. Holy Spirit bring someone to my mind to whom you want me to minister your comfort and freedom from oppression.
