Keeping the Main Thing the Main Thing

You are receiving this Wed. morning after the election. You may have received good news today, some received bad news, and others received mixed news as it relates to the election. Regardless, Jesus is still our Lord. The Good News has not changed! We remain messengers of Jesus who is our leader. Take some time today to focus on the teachings of Jesus as he centers us upon what is most important at all times - good, bad, or mixed.

Spend some time meditating on this passage. Take a moment to focus your attention on Jesus. Take a deep breath or two. Speak to the Lord with the words of Samuel, "Speak Lord, your servant is listening." Repeat this once or twice more then read the passage with imagination.

This week, we will read Mark 12:28 - 44

Here are the basic steps:

  • Pray for the Spirit to lead you in this imaginative reading. Ask the Spirit to lead you in what you need to hear.
  • Read the passage twice.
  • Put the Bible down and try to imagine the story. You will first need to decide who you are in it. Are you yourself or one of the disciples? Are you participating in the story or watching it as an observer? Don’t spend a lot of time here. Just go with what seems most natural.
  • Then, try to imagine the scene.  Notice not only what you see, but what you hear and smell and feel. What is the weather like? What clothes are people wearing? What can you touch near you? What sounds are you aware of?
  • Now, let the story run from beginning to end in your imagination. Notice what Jesus does and says. Does He have anything to say to you? Notice how you feel and respond.
  • When you are done, spend some time in prayer, speaking to Jesus about what you imagined and experienced.
  • Finally, journal your responses. Note important feelings, thoughts, and desires. What caught your attention? What did you realize? What do you wonder?

May God make us better messengers of Jesus as we get to know Jesus better.

Grace and Peace,

Drew
