Marinate in God's Character

Our security and significance don't come from us but from God. Let's marinate in and consider the character of God which never changes. Meditate and memorize these truths about who God is. In an uncertain world and fickle, personal faith, we want to anchor our hope to the unfailing character of God.

Here is a list of passages that remind us of God's never changing character. Each day this week take a couple of these passages with you throughout the day. Let the Spirit use them to establish your security in the character of God.

Lord, You Are . .  .

But you, O Lord, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head. (Ps.   3: 3)

I say to the Lord, “You are my Lord; I have no good apart from you.” (Ps. 16: 2)

But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” (Ps. 31: 14)

You are a hiding place for me; you preserve me from trouble; you surround me with shouts of deliverance. (Ps. 32: 7)

As for me, I am poor and needy, but the Lord takes thought for me. You are my help and my deliverer; do not delay, O my God! (Ps. 40: 17)

For you, O Lord, are my hope, my trust, O Lord, from my youth. (Ps. 71: 5)

You are the God who works wonders; you have made known your might among the peoples. (Ps. 77: 14)

For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you. (Ps. 86: 5)

But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. (Ps. 86: 15)

You are my God, and I will give thanks to you; you are my God; I will extol you. (Ps. 118: 28)

I cry to you, O Lord; I say, “You are my refuge, my portion in the land of the living.” (Ps. 142: 5)

Take 10 minutes each day:

  • Read 3 or 4 of the passages.
  • Sit in silence, meditating on these passages.
  • Ask God to show you how he fulfills those truths in your life.
  • Reflect on the previous day. In what ways did you experience God's character?
  • Ask God to apply these truths in the day ahead.

As you experience your day, note how these passages came to mind and brought insight into your day.

Repeat this simple daily exercise using a different set of God's character traits from the list above.

Grace and Peace,

Drew
