The Power of Words

Drew Smith
We talked last Sunday about making our conflicts SAFE. You may recall that the F reminds us to Focus on Words that Connect, because words can destroy or encourage. Words can bring us together or tear us apart. This Sunday, we will look particularly at the power of the tongue (and also the post). We will be focussing on James 3:1-12. If you have time, read the whole book - it's not too long. For the next several days, take some time to reflect on the words that you said or posted. Consider how you honored the Lord with words of truth and grace, and reflect on how you used words in hurtful, harmful ways. Also, consider how you were silent when you could have used words in caring, encouraging ways. The tongue is powerful.
Grace and Peace,
Drew
PS - Don't forget tonight (Friday) is the Celebrate Summer at Patrick's Park in College Hill - 6-8pm. Get some friends and bring them. You can sign up early now to enter the raffle and get your ticket for an ice cream sandwich - just go to www.chpc.org/cookie. Also, we still need some help with setting things up, running some of the events, and tearing down. If you can help sign up here.
